ThiswasmhreasoningthanSsu-maKuahespiritfadesawaywhenthebodyhasdecayed,atheorywhichstilladmitsthespiritassomething。Fandamehespiritasaisonlyafungofthebody。Thissimplifipleasedmyboyishmindanditgladdeoreadthat“Althoughthewholedtrywereagainsthim,noonesurefutinghim。”

In1906afewofmysatesintheationalInstitutefoundedaperiodicalcalledTheStruggl—aahepopularityoftheDarwiniantheory—whigprimarilyiilliheuedmasses,ublishedinthepeihuaorspokenlanguage。Iwasiributetoitsfirstissue,aerIbecameitssoleeditor。Myeditorialworkonthismagazionlytodevelopanabilityihelivierarymedium,butalsotothinkout,inguageandlogicalorder,theideasandthoughtswhichhadbeentakingshapesincemychildhooddays。Inmanyofmyarticleswrittenfazironglyattackedthesuperstitionsofthepeopleandwasfranklyiodatheistic。
